The Vision is to make athletics the number one sport in the country.
The Mission of the Federation is creation of conducive and sustainable environment for talent identification and development in athletics. The UAF has the mandate to develop, promote and control sports of athletics within Uganda in accordance with the IAAF rules and regulations.
The UAF and its Member Associations jointly implement athletics activities in the country and prepare athletes for all international competitions held under Rules and Regulations of global athletics body International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF). The Federation collaborates directly with the Ministry of Sports and Education (MoES) or through the National Council of Sports (NCS) on general development of sports and athletics in schools. It also collaborates with Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) pertaining to athletics as a key sport of Olympic movement.
To promote and control the sport of athletics (track and field, cross country, road and mountain running) in Uganda within IAAF rules and regulations.
To address issues of equality in athletics to ensure that no racial, religious, political or other kind of discrimination is allowed in athletics, and to take all practical measures to stop such discrimination.
To enhance talent identification, development and welfare of athletes who rise to up represent the country in international competitions.
To prevent and/or eradicate improper methods or practices in athletics particularly to discourage drug – abuse, protect athletics from abuse and encouragement of honest practices.
To improve capacity and competences of the human resource in athletics structures in order to coordinate, implement, monitor and evaluate athletics programs and performance of athletes at all levels.
Respect of the fundamental human rights and freedom of association, and the rights of members, self regulation and governance.
