14th MTN Kampala Marathon Launched.
The MTN Kampala Marathon is back and in this 14th edition. During its launch at MTN Head offices, Hannington Towers, the UAF President Mr. Domenic Otucet, main partners MTN Chief Executive Officer Mr. Wim Vanhelleputte, Stanbic Bank, New Vision, Huawei and the Uganda Police Force all spoke of a bigger and better opportunity for everyone to run for a good cause.
The Chief Executive Officer for MTN Wim Vanhelleputte speaking at the launch, said: “I thank my partners for coming on board and sticking with us. The fact that we have been there for this Marathon for all these years shows that it’s a good event.” He added: “It’s a very professional race because of the involvement of the Uganda Athletics Federation who work hand in hand with the International body – the IAAF. Let’s come in large numbers as we run for the good cause and paint the City of Kampala yellow once again.”
This year, the marathon will give participants an option to choose upon which cause they would love to run for; with 2 options – Either to improve on maternal health or reduce on the risks of exposure to cancer amongst school going children. Proceeds as such will then have to be used to provide better facilities in Kiswa and Komamboga Health Centre while others will be used to reduce the exposure of school going children to cancer caused by carcinogens present in asbestos roofings in most public schools.
This year’s marathon is set to take place on November 19th, 2017 with the introduction of a 5 Kilometer family run. The MTN Kampala marathon since inception, has raised over 3 billion Uganda shillings facilitating charitable projects from the Mama Bag, provision of clean water within various communities, improving sanitation within schools, supporting maternal health and caring or reducing the risks of cancer.
