London 2017 Championship journey begins
The journey to the 2017 London World Athletics Championships, World Under-18 Championships and Commonwealth Youth Games begin this weekend March 4, 2017 at Mandela Stadium, Namboole.
Athletes will be gearing up at hitting qualification marks early in the season for the above international competitions during the 1st National Track and Field Meet. The competition scheduled to run in the morning will see athletes’ kick start their campaign.
The Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) has already released the IAAF qualifying standards which will form the basis for national team selections for the said championships. The youth and junior athletes will be walking a tight rope to hit the required standards owing to tight international competition dates that are close to each other.
This category of runners will now have to contend with the Commonwealth Youth Games due in Bahamas and the World Under-18 Junior Championships for Nairobi, Kenya will both take place between July 18 and July 24, 2017. The World Championships on the other hand will take place on August 3 - 14, 2017 in London, Great Britain.
The UAF National Competition calendar 2017 has however earmarked 15 national track and field competitions to assist athletes qualify for the international competitions which include trials, regional and the climaxing national track and field championships.
